CLACTON’S Jason Levermore booked his place in next year’s BMW PGA Championship after a dazzling display at the Titleist PGA Play-Offs.

Just days after landing the Golfplan Insurance PGA Pro-Captain Challenge title with Channels club captain Neil Hutchinson, he reproduced the goods on his own this time as he finished second to continue an amazing 2014 season.

Former Clacton County High School pupil Levermore carded a best-of-the-day six-under-par 65 in the final round over the PGA Sultan course to finish on 12-under-par for the tournament – just two behind Ireland’s Niall Kearney, a member of the 2009 Walker Cup team.

The 35-year-old’s reward, along with a cheque for £1,500 to go with the £5,000 he won last week, is a return to Wentworth but also a highly-prized place in the Great Britain and Ireland PGA Cup team that will take on the United States at CordeValle, California, next September.

Kearney will also be in the ten-man team, as will former Tour winner David Dixon, of Enmore Park, Somerset, who finished third to secure his place in the PGA Professionals’ equivalent of the Ryder Cup.

Levermore’s runner-up spot in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship in August put him in contention for a place, with six places decided at next year’s event based on points over the two championships, with a captain’s pick completing the line-up.

But any doubt has now ended with Levermore relieved to have completed his twin target, especially having been urged to book his place by captain Jon Bevan.

“I feel fantastic now,” he said.

“I knew I was in a good position to make the PGA Cup team after the PGA Professional Championship but sealing it this week is fantastic.

“I’m over the moon and glad it’s all finished.

“Before I came out to Turkey, (Great Britain and Ireland captain) Jon Bevan basically said ‘get my backside in gear and book my spot’ so I’m pleased to get that spot.

“I’ll also be playing in my sixth BMW PGA Championship which I’m looking forward to.

“The whole year has been superb and probably the best golf I’ve played with the least amount of practice in the last ten years, so it says a lot for being happy at home, with my family and a good job.

“I seem a lot more settled on the course and generally less nervy.

“Shooting six-under in the last round is probably one of my best scores when I’ve been in contention and I’m pleased to finish the week with a really positive score.”
