Tony Humes said he would love to see his Colchester United players pit their wits against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup third round, following their dramatic win over Peterborough United.

The U’s are in the hat for tonight’s draw after George Moncur’s late winner and Sam Walker’s excellent penalty save helped them see off Posh last night and advance in the competition.

Colchester beat their League One rivals Posh 1-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium to seal their progress in the FA Cup – and a possible tie against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City or Arsenal.

U's boss Humes said: “Blyth Spartans, my home town club or Wrexham would be great, from a personal point of view.

“But from the club’s side of things, a big Premier League or Championship team home or away for the experience for the players and the financial side of it.

“You take what you’re given but I’m looking forward to the draw.

“We’re through and we have the next round to look forward to, which is what we asked for.

“We won a game of football which was massive for us, after the three games in a row that we’d lost - the players stuck together and they got their rewards.”
