Jon Bailey took advantage of the wet conditions to win Playgolf Colchester’s division one stableford.
Bailey (seven) was a ray of sunshine in the gloom, carding ten pars and birdied the par-four 12th to record 37 points.
Rob Wareing (seven) finished runner-up after recording 35 points, including nine pars and two par-four birdies.
Wareing finished second on countback ahead of in-form Matt Barnett who shot eight pars, which was good going in the torrential rain.
Mehendra Gurung (13) carded a winning 37 points in division two.
His eight pars proved too hot to handle as he waded in with a five-point gap from second-placed Ivan Southernwood (19) with 32 points.
Sam Durrant (15) finished third on countback from Glen Saunders (19), after both players carded 31 points.
Miguel Ruiz (24) recorded a level-standard scratch 35 points to win division three.
Stephen Marr (24) was second on countback from Graham Adye (22), after both players carded a respectable 33 points.
Heavy rain drenched the large field of hardy competitors but the course held up well against the weather.
The sand-based greens hardly changed from their usual receptive nature and showed a true roll.
Ben Cosgrove (four) fired his second gross round of 68 in quick succession to win the Kirwin Cup, made up of the top eight from the club championship.
