WITHAM Town's FA Cup adventure came to an unfortunate end today, as Garry Kimble's side lost 2-1 at home to Weston-super-Mare.

A bumper crowd of more than 600 turned up for the fourth qualifying round tie, at the Village Glass Stadium.

And it was the hosts who made a dream start, thanks to an eighth-minute goal from Kurt Smith, heading in at the second attempt from a free-kick by James Stevens.

However, Clayton Fortune headed the visitors level shortly before half-time and their winner came early in the second period, from an own goal by Brad Stopher.

James Robinson had a golden chance to fire Witham level, only to hit the bar from the penalty spot.

Jacob Crane was then sent off for Weston-super-Mare, but the visitors held their nerve to progress into the first-round proper draw, being conducted live on BBC TV on Monday night.
