Tony Humes admits Colchester United must be more ruthless if they are to climb further away from the League One drop zone.

The U’s boss was disappointed his side did not claim all three points at Scunthorpe United, after they played out a 1-1 draw at Glanford Park.

Colchester spurned plenty of opportunities to win the game, forcing them to settle for a draw that leaves them a point above the bottom four.

And although he was pleased with the performance, boss Humes conceded the U’s must develop more of a killer instinct.

He said: “At least we haven’t lost the game which is a positive but if we’re going to climb up the table, we have to kill teams off and finish games.

“When you go away from home you take any result but such is the performance and the opportunities we created, we’re disappointed that we only took one point.

“We’re playing well but we have to get that ruthlessness and kill teams off.

“All of the goals we’re scoring are good goals and it would be good to get a few scrappy ones.”
