Gavin Massey has committed his future to Colchester United after signing a two-year extension at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Massey, who joined the U's on a permanent deal from Watford in 2012, will stay at the U's until at least the summer of 2017 after agreeing to sign a new deal.
The 22-year-old, who was due to be out of contract at the end of this season, had made nearly 100 appearances for Colchester.
He scored both of their goals in the 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town, last weekend.
Massey said: "I've definitely got my confidence back and I'm expressing myself.
"We have loads of young players here and they're relishing playing week in, week out at such a high level of football.
"We can stay as a group for the next couple of years or so, we'll definitely be going places.
"There's a lot of hard work ahead but the performances from the youngsters since Tony (Humes) took over have been different class."
