A strong back nine helped Jane Reed came out top in Colchester Golf Club’s ladies Autumn Meeting.

She finished two points clear with a card of 38 points from her 12 handicap, in a field of 66 players.

After ten holes Reed was eight over par and looking like she was going to end up down the order.

But she showed her strength at the back of her round and a birdie on the 11th seemed to spur her on.

A dropped shot on the 12th was cancelled by another birdie on the 16th.

And straight pars in between ensured that Reed was still eight over par, on leaving the green.

Despite dropping another shot on the 17th and collecting a double bogey on the 18th, she was still able to claim victory.

Janet Austin (26) was runner-up after recording 37 points, finishing a point ahead of Judith Robertson (16).

Chris Clarke (23) returned 35 points to claim fourth spot.

Reed also collected the nearest the pin prize on the 16th for her birdie and Pip Macaulay was the nearest on the eighth.
