It was heartache for Maldon and Tiptree in the Essex Senior Cup as they exited the competition on penalties.

Nine-man Maldon were level at 2-2 at full-time with visiting AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday night before losing in the penalty shoot-out.

Maldon took the lead on 12 minutes when Nathan Koranteng turns inside the area before firmly firing home.

But Hornchurch levelled on 27 minutes when Thomas Gogo curled a shot in the bottom right-hand corner from 25 yards.

However, the Jammers went back in front when a deep free-kick was half cleared to Koranteng whose second of the night is deflected in on 38 minutes.

But Hornchurch pulled it level in the second half when Reece Beckles-Richards’ lob dropped inside the far post on 60 minutes.

Five minutes later, Maldon were reduced to ten men when Marcus Rose received a second yellow card.

The Jammers then went down to nine men when Alberto Pinto was cautioned for a second time on 86 minutes.

But the match ended in a draw and went straight to a penalty shootout.

And it was the Hornchurch who went through 4-1 on spot-kicks.

Heybridge Swifts lost out 4-2 to visiting Dereham Town in Ryman League division one north on Tuesday night.

Swifts were hit with a double whammy early in the first half when Dereham took a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Hawkins and Adam Smith on three and five minutes respectively.

It got worse for Swifts on 33 minutes when Aaron Kay made it 3-0.

The home side pulled a goal back on 60 minutes through Ryan McFarlane.

Then Joe Pearman reduced the arrears further when he scored on 63 minutes.

But Kayat restored the two-goal advantage on 71 minutes.

Burnham Ramblers lost out 5-3 at Waltham Abbey.

Abbey took the lead on 19 minutes through Jason Hallett.

However, the lead didn’t last long as the visitors equalised from the penalty spot when Liam Burgess converted three minutes later.

And it was Burgess who then gave Burnham the lead when he added his and his team’s second on 33 minutes.

But Abbey pulled it back level again just before half-time when Joseph Kizzi made it 2-2 on 44 minutes.

But right after the restart Burnham went back in front when Bradley Nobbs scored on 48 minutes.

Hallett, however, brought it back level again four minutes later.

Then Abbey took the lead on 75 minutes when James Elms scored on 75 minutes.

They went further in front when Kizzi made it 5-3 on 80 minutes to secure the win.
