Two-goal hero Gavin Massey helped Colchester United see off Fleetwood Town – and then labelled his match-winning performance as the best of his career.

Massey scored a superb brace to seal a 2-1 win for the U’s and help them notch up their first home victory of the campaign, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The 22-year-old’s goals were his first of the season for Colchester and the versatile attacker now wants to hit the net on a regular basis.

Massey said: “It was an unbelievable game for me – it was definitely the best day of my career.

“They’re the best goals I’ve ever scored and they came at home, too.

“I hadn’t really been talking about scoring more goals but I’d been thinking about it.

“This has given me a bit more confidence and hopefully I can go on and get the goals I deserve for my play.

“With all of our front six players scoring goals, it was about time I got mine.

“I was joking with Freddie (Sears) before the game that when I do score they seem to come in twos and that’s what happened.

“The fans are probably not used to those types of goals from me but it’s something I’m confident of doing.”
