Gavin Massey scored twice as Colchester United beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 to register their first home win of the season, The U's came from behind to beat the Cod Army and get back to winning ways at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

David Fox, making his second debut for Colchester after signing a three-month deal, went close early on with a fine shot from the edge of the area.

The U's started the game well but went behind against the run of play in the 18th minute.

Liam McAlinden latched onto Steven Schumacher’s long pass to calmly lift the ball over the on-rushing Sam Walker. from the edge of the area.

The goal seemed to rock Colchester and Fleetwood went in search of more goals in the minutes that followed.

Danny Andrew went close to doubling the visitors’ lead after that and McAlinden had a penalty claim rejected when he fellunder Sean Clohessy’s challenge in the area.

But Colchester scored a fine goal to equalise, five minutes before half-time.

Freddie Sears’ superb pass released Massey, whose fine first-time strike from a difficult angle beat Chris Maxwell at his near post.

Walker denied Antoni Sarcevic’s near-post effort just after the break and Gareth Evans side-footed just wide, as an even battle ensued.

But Massey grabbed the winner when he fired in a shot which looped over Maxwell and in, after being picked out by Sean Clohessy on the edge of the area.
