Stanway's Terry Byrne is celebrating after winning two medals at the Invictus Games.

The 30-year-old world champion Paralympic cyclist claimed silver in the men’s circuit race road bike event, at the Lee Valley VeloPark.

He also won bronze in the men’s time trial road bike race at the inaugural event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

Byrne won silver in the circuit race after clocking a time of 36 minutes 57.731 seconds.

He finished behind fellow Brit Jaco Van Gass, who won gold in a time of 35m 39.192s.

Byrne had earlier claimed bronze in the time trial after recording a time of 2m 17.735s to finish third.

Van Gass won gold (2m 12.945s), while Frenchman David Travadon claimed silver (2m 15.550s).

Byrne, a former Colchester-based 2nd Battalion soldier, lost his right leg and a little finger after stepping on an improvised explosive device while taking part in a routine night patrol in Afghanistan in August, 2008.

He was one of more than 400 competitors from 13 nations to take part in the first-ever Invictus Games.
