Former Colchester United skipper Brian Wilson is set to make a rapid return to his old club tomorrow.

Wilson is expected to be in the Oldham Athletic side that takes on the U's, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on the opening day of the League One season this weekend.

Wilson made 150 league appearances for Colchester, whom he served for four seasons.

U's boss Joe Dunne said: “Brian did very well for us when he was here.

“He’s at a new club now and is back with his family in Manchester.

“One thing for sure is that when he played, he always did his best for the club.

“We wish him well at his new club but come Saturday, it’ll be a different story."

Dunne is expecting an interesting encounter against Oldham, who are expected to hand debuts to several summer signings tomorrow.

Dunne said: “They’ve been good tactical games against Oldham over the years and I don’t expect anything different, this weekend.

“This is Lee’s second season in the job and this is my third.

“He’s made some good signings and they’re building a new stand at their ground, which looks fantastic.

“They’re rebuilding their club again and it will be a difficult game for us on Saturday.

“The one great thing about starting the season is the excitement levels.

“The fans’ routine returns and that’s key on a matchday.

“It’ll be great for that to come back, coming to the ground and knowing that you’re playing for three points."
