Dominic Vose scored twice as Colchester United won 4-3 at Dagenham and Redbridge in their latest pre-season friendly.

Darren Ambrose played for more than an hour at Victoria Road, as the U's came from 3-1 down to beat their League Two opponents.

Vose and Sanchez Watt both tested former U's keeper Mark Cousins, in the opening stages.

But Colchester did find a way past Cousins in the sixth minute through Macauley Bonne, who swept home from close range after Craig Eastmond’s powerful shot from the edge of the area had been blocked following Vose’s corner.

However, Dagenham were back on level terms in the 14th minute.

Ex-Dagenham keeper Chris Lewington made a good save from point-blank range, to deny Brian Saah’s header.

But seconds later from a corner, skipper Abu Ogogo rose highest to plant a header past Lewington from close range, after leaving him with no chance.

Dagenham, inspired by former U's loanee George Porter, went in search of a second goal after that.

And they got one just before the break when Ashley Hemmings’ bullet header from Ashley Chambers’ cross left Lewington with no chance, following a swift Dagenham break.

Colchester fell further behind on the hour mark when Chambers lashed in a fine left-foot strike from nearly 25 yards which flew into the centre of the net.

But the U's pulled a goal back less than five minutes later through Vose, whose cross-cum-shot flew over a crowd of players and into the far corner of the net.

And Colchester equalised with 15 minutes to go when Vose's audacious strike from 35 yards flew over the head of substitute keeper Liam O'Brien and in.

The U's were ahead barely a minute later when Jabo Ibehre stabbed in from close range, after George Moncur's pass had deflected into his path.

And that proved to be the winner, as Colchester ran out winners in a topsy-turvey game.
