Gazette: Dan's the man as Holman signs for U's Dan's the man as Holman signs for U's

Colchester United have signed striker Dan Holman from Braintree Town on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who was top goalscorer at Cressing Road last season after scoring 13 goals for the Iron in the Conference Premier, had been training with League Two side Southend United last week.

But he has now elected to sign for Colchester and is Joe Dunne's fourth signing of the summer.

Holman, who scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for Braintree, joined the Iron from Histon in August 2012 and caught the eye with his performances for Alan Devonshire's side.

U's boss Dunne and assistant Mark Kinsella watched Holman play several times for Braintree.

And they have now brought him to the U's, where he will compete with the likes of Freddie Sears and Jabo Ibehre for a starting spot.

For all of the latest U's news, see the Daily Gazette.

A good and interesting acquisition. I see this as a positive as Peterborough over recent years have done the same and found it lucrative for them. Would really like to see him do well.

I blogged on this site several times last season regards this player.
I'm glad to see that the club has been positive in signing this lad. I've seen him play on several occasions, and he is the kind of young hungry player that the club needs. He has good pace, chases back after the ball, and can go past people. I'm sure the reason Freddie Lap was allowed to leave was because he could only run straight into a defender, not go past them.

Another talent I spotted was two season back when I saw two young players in a reserve game Colchester V Luton . I had never seen Drey Wright play before, but though impressed with him, the player that really stood out for me was a lad called Andre Grey, who has now recently sighed for Brentford for a huge transfer fee.

In Joe we trust says...

Looks to be a very shrewd signing, certainly seems to know where the net is, albeit at lower level.
Joe looks to have made some good moves in the transfer market so far, look forward to seeing them in action in preseason.
Up the U's

Did the same thing Crazy, sadly Dunne has not t a clue what actual talent exists within a short distance of the club. I told them about another lad that bangs in goals for fun, his ears are big but he is totally deaf and blind. I don't think he likes to be told stuff?
