Luke Garbutt has been praised by Colchester United manager Joe Dunne after the young left-back was called up to the England under-21 squad.
The Everton youngster is hoping to win his first under-21 cap for Gareth Southgate’s side after being called up for next Monday’s Euro qualifier with Wales, along with the forthcoming Toulon tournament.
Garbutt was hugely impressive in his four-month loan spell with the U’s, where he made 20 appearances and scored three goals.
Dunne said: “I hope Luke has a career at the very top of this game and he did very well for us.
“He’s a very enthusiastic young footballer who stayed back and did extra training every day, like practising his free-kicks.
“It’s an attitude that will take him to a very high level and we hope that’s the Premier League.”
