COLCHESTER United boss Joe Dunne is keeping his feet firmly on the ground – despite watching his side produce a scintillating second-half performance to win 3-2 at Stevenage.

The Irishman admitted being “exceptionally pleased” after two goals from Freddie Sears and one from Jabo Ibehre secured a precious win in Hertfordshire.

However, Dunne is refusing to get carried away in terms of his side’s survival chances.

Instead, he said his players have to reproduce the goods in their remaining matches – starting with Friday’s home clash against Oldham Athletic.

“It was a big game and I thought we were very good in the second half,” said Dunne.

“We were magnificent and I was exceptionally pleased.

“It could have been more and the final score was closer than it should have been.

“Freddie produced a wonderful finish for our first goal and then Jabo was alert to make it 2-1.

“We sensed the third goal was coming.

“We were on the front foot and camped in their final third.

“Every time we broke forward it looked like we were going to score.

“It was a big game and, at this stage of the season, an important win, which we worked hard for.

“However, there are still more matches to go and my job now is to make sure we win again next week, too.”
