Groves backing U's to beat the drop

Perry Groves is adamant that Colchester United will retain their League One status this season.

And the former U’s star says the future looks bright for his old club under manager Joe Dunne.

Colchester head to play-off chasing Peterborough United tonight, hoping to ease their relegation fears.

They lie three points above the bottom four, with seven games remaining.

But Groves - who played more than 150 times for the U’s between 1982 and 1986 before leaving for Arsenal - is sure that his ex-club will beat the drop.

Groves told the Daily Gazette: “I think they’ll definitely stay up this year, without a shadow of a doubt.

“And I think when they do that, they’ll flourish next season."

Groves has agreed to take part in the London to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, in June.

Whatever Groves says, its down to the lightweights that make up this disorganised team and management that will keep the U's up, not what someone believes will happen and has no control over events..

Joe Dunne, bring Perry Groves back, let him score a couple of goals for us, that will help.

Much appreciated words of encouragement from Perry.
I've followed his sporting career since watching him play junior football for Cornard Dynamo's. And before him his uncle VIC GROVES is still a footballing legend for Arsenal fans. Good to have Perry spreading confidence
in Col United's chances for league 1 football next season.

Nora, never knew that Vic Groves was Perry's uncle. Remember Vic getting two goals for Arsenal in that 2 2 draw the U's had at home in the F.A. Cup. Wish that I could share you and Perry's optimism in our league one relegation battle. Saturday is a must win game. If we can possibly win this ,then it could be the springboard we need for the last few games.
