Braintree Town striker Dan Holman is trying to stay positive rather as he and his Iron team-mates continue their gruelling week on the road.

Tonight's Skrill Premier game at Southport is part of a mamouth 1,400-mile six-day travel-fest for Braintree this week.

They have already been to Gateshead - where they lost 1-0 to a goal in the final minute on Saturday - and follow tonight's action with a trip to Halifax on Thursday.

Boss Alan Devonshire knows such a long time on the road for his players could derail their hopes of making the Skrill Premier play-offs this year, but Holman is trying to stay positive.

“It is pretty ridiculous that we’ve got these three long journeys in a week, but we have to deal with it," he said.

“If we look at it with a positive outlook then we’ll have a better outcome rather than thinking about it and feeling sorry for ourselves.

“You have to get on the coach and think about the game rather than the long journey that you’ve got.

“As long as we look after ourselves I think we should be OK."

Ryan Peters will undergo a fitness test ahead of tonight's game after missing the defeat at Gateshead and Devonshire told the Times that he had no fresh injury concerns ahead of tonight's fixture.

The Iron boss said: "We are fine, but it will be a big ask for us.

"Southport have been very impressive recently at home so it's definitely goign to be an even game.

"Hopefully we will get a bit of luck that we didn't on Saturday when we lost in the 90th minute."
