HEYBRIDGE Swifts secured an emphatic victory against leaders VCD Athletic.

Their 3-0 Ryman One North victory secured the double over their visitors this season.

Heybridge started and finished the first half well with Ben Newson and Jamie Guy causing the visitors problems.

However, Swifts had Robbie King to thank for blocking Uche Ibemere's shot after a pacey run through midfield.

VCD were denied the first goal of the game through an excellent save from Ashley Harrison after a shot from inside the box by Karl Dent.

Harrison made another save on 23 minutes holding on to a Duckworth free-kick.

Lea Dawson then struck the post after a pass from Dent.

VCD should have taken the lead through Michael Power five minutes before the break but the striker missed the target.

But it was Heybridge that took the lead when Chris Bryan ran into the box on the right, laid the ball into the middle for Newson who's first time shot was blocked on the line by Williams but it fell perfectly for Guy leaning to fire the ball into the top right corner in first-half injury-time.

Heybridge pressed forward with determination in fast paced second half.

A decisive second goal came a minute before the hour when Gavin Greenfield met a Chris Bryan corner to power home an unstoppable header and put Swifts 2-0 up.

The second goal visibly rocked the visitors and on 87 minutes Michael Toner's diving header at the far post, from a Danny Barber free-kick wrapped the match up.
