Maldon and Tiptree came back fighting with a solid win against Cheshunt.

Maldon won 2-0 in their Ryman League division one north encounter on Tuesday night, bouncing back from their 6-1 mauling by Dereham at the weekend.

Maldon had the early chances with a number of headers on target with one being cleared off the line.

However, Cheshunt came more into the game and began to construct chances of their own.

Brad Hunter then did well to control the ball for Maldon but dragged his shot just wide.

Maldon continued to have efforts on target but couldn’t find a way through the Cheshunt defence before half-time.

But just after the break, Maldon broke the deadlock when Hunter made it 1-0 on 49 minutes with a great finish into the roof of the net.

Maldon then had the chance to go further in front from a corner but missed from close range.

The visitors almost grabbed an equaliser when keeper Jason Willis fumbled a cross but he then made an excellent point blank save to keep the home side in front.

Maldon then went close at the other end when Spencer Harrison headed wide from a free-kick.

However, the hosts made the game safe on 90 minutes when Hunter broke to double his and his team’s tally for the night with a great finish.
