WET weather has been playing havoc with the local football fixtures.

The Ryman League, across the premier and division one north and south, have had virtual washouts at the weekend and on Tuesday night.

And this story has been repeated throughout February and January. However, the league have no plans at the moment to extend the season to ease a fixture backlog that may see some teams playing on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Ryman League spokesman David Watters said: “As far as the league stands we are not looking to extend the season.

“We have had very wet weather, from the Saturday before Christmas to mid-January, and out of the scheduled 350 league games 200 were postponed.

“And since then that trend has continued with games being postponed again.

“However, after the snows of recent years the league is used to dealing with fixture backlogs.

“So at the moment we are not actively looking at extending the season but we are aware of the situation and are monitoring it.”
