Fixture list is left in tatters by the wet weather

WET weather has caused chaos with this afternoon's non-league football programme.

Many games were called off yesterday and others have fallen by the wayside this morning.

The most high-profile casualty is Braintree Town's Skrill Premier contest at Southport, which was postponed due to the soggy conditions late on Friday afternoon.

Other games called off yesterday were the Ryman League division one north matches between Heybridge Swifts and Cheshunt, Witham Town and Chatham Town and Waltham Forest and Maldon and Tiptree.

In the Thurlow Nunn League, Halstead Town's division one date at March Town United was called off as early as Thursday.

Stanway Rovers' premier division match at Godmanchester Rovers went the same way after a 12.45pm pitch inspection and then FC Clacton's home match against Brantham Athletic joined the rapidly-growing list of casualties.

Two games involving our sides are still standing - for now - and they are the premier division contests between Norwich United and Brightlingsea Regent and Walsham-le-Willows and Wivenhoe Town.

The Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League has also been badly affected, with the vast majority of matches postponed.
