Colchester United made it back-to-back wins in League One with a thumping 4-2 victory at Carlisle United this afternoon.

Joe Dunne’s side continued their improved run of form with an emphatic win at Brunton Park.

Carlisle started well, with U’s goalkeeper Sam Walker denying Tom Lawrence at his near post after the Manchester United loanee had tormented the away defence.

But Colchester went ahead in the 16th minute through Watt, who collected Marcus Bean’s pass before running at the Carlisle defence and drilled a low left-shot past goalkeeper Greg Fleming.

However, the U’s lead lasted less than two minutes.

James Berrett’s free-kick into the area was not dealt with by the U’s defence and the ball appeared to fly in off Magnus Okuonghae.

Lawrence’s effort flew straight into Walker’s arms and the U’s goalkeeper palmed over David Amoo’s effort, as half-time approached.

But just when it looked as though the teams would go in level at the break, Colchester regained their lead in first-half stoppage-time when Watt capitalised on uncertainty in the Carlisle defence to tap home, after Clinton Morrison had helped on Brian Wilson’s throw.

Walker tipped away Amoo’s effort before the hour but Colchester made it 3-1 just after the midway point in the second half through Marcus Bean, who headed in at the far post from Luke Garbutt’s searching free-kick.

Things got even better for Colchester five minutes later when Max Ehmer diverted Dominic Vose's cross into his own net, to put the U’s practically out of sight.

Ehmer tapped home Carlisle’s second in stoppage-time after Walker had failed to hold Lawrence’s free-kick but by then, the U’s had secured the points.

Well done the U's! Another good win - and top half of table and positive goal difference to boot! Maybe we can start looking up the table rather than over our shoulders?

Obviously we are still very much a work in progress and we couldn't get our passing game going today. Nevertheless, Sanchez Watt has come back really hungry for goals and his presence has been the main difference. This was another good three points in the bag which will all help to develop even greater team spirit and confidence.

I do hope Sam now signs next week as he won't want to leave after spilling a shot which led to Carlisle's second goal late in the game. We definitely need another entre half in this transfer window too.

Well done The U's and now lets just see what we can achieve over the remainder of the season.

Correction to the second paragraph above. It should have read :

Don't think there will be moans from anyone this week. Just what the doctor ordered. We now need as many points as possible because we do have some very tough games looming ahead against some very good teams. Lets hope the next home game against Shrewsbury, that a few fans will return and that the team gives a good performance to make them want to come again.

It was really good to see Colchester get another 4 goals yesterday. Every team outside of the top 5 can beat anyone else.

It would be nice to hear some of the negative minded folks on here give some good words to Joe Dunne and boys, especially those that wanted him sacked just one month ago.........

Well done Col U, shame we have a 10 day wait now till our next game.

What is also significant is that Notts County won yet again; putting them second in the recent form table behind Brentford.; whilst the U's are now amongst the leading 'form sides' too. On that dark day when so many fickle fans were calling for heads to to roll, we were simply beaten by a clearly superior team that is fast racing up the league table under Sean Derry; whilst Joe Dunne has lifted the U's to a top half third tier league place; a status bettered by few former managers at Layer Road. Let's give Joe the credit he deserves. I don't reckon the play offs are beyond us if we can keep the squad fit and the crowd gets behind the side and the minority of negative voices stop moaning.

This is proving to be a real 'topse turvy' kind of season, unpredictable is the only way to describe our form so far. Hammered by the bottom club was the low point, and all the talk was about relegation, and now some are saying we maybe contenders for the play-off's. Goes to show how fickle some of us supporters really are. Only a brave person, or a fool will predict where we eventually finish in the league come May, but recent form says we should be quietly confident of keeping our league 1 status.
So refreshing to see 'super waluigi' and Noah4x4 have maintained consistency with their comments throughout good times and the not so good times.
'Good news' Just heard Sam Walker is signing to stay with the U's,
