WITHAM Town’s demolition of Ryman One North frontrunners VCD Athletic has earned them a top league award.

Their 4-1 victory at the Village Glass Stadium saw Witham named as the December winners of the Macron Ryman League Performance of the Month award in division one north.

The division’s leaders suffered their heaviest defeat of the season thanks to an outstanding performance from Garry Kimble’s side.

An own goal opened the scoring for Witham before they were pegged back before the break.

However, second-half strikes by Lewis Godbold and James Stevens, added to another own goal, wrapped up an important three points.

That game on December 7 remains Witham’s last on home turf as a waterlogged pitch has led to a series of postponements since.

Witham assistant boss, Brad King, said while the players have been frustrated by the recent inactivity, the performance against VCD Athletic showed what the Town squad is capable of achieving this year.

King said: “Getting the award and knowing that it was our last home game, which is more than a month ago now, just highlights the frustration that the lads are feeling.

“But I have to say the boys’ attitudes have been exceptional both on the pitch in games like this one and off it too.

“They are a tight-knit group who always give their all and never let us down.

“Their attitude in training is excellent and it has to be that way to keep achieving this type of result.

“They have been superb and we’re just hoping that with the team spirit we have, we can pick up where we left off.”
