Midfielder Bond leaves Colchester United

First published in Sport

ANDY Bond has had his contract at Colchester United cancelled by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old midfielder had been with the U’s for three-and-a-half years after being signed by John Ward in July 2010.

Bond had made 128 appearances and scored 13 goals for Colchester.

However, he fell out of favour in manager Joe Dunne’s plans spending time out on loan at Crewe Alexandra last season before returning to the Weston Homes Stadium to fight for his place.

However, this season he struggled to find a regular place in the U’s squad and had another spell out on loan, this time at Bristol Rovers.

Following his return from Rovers in October, Bond has only featured sparingly from the bench.

This season he has only made 11 appearences for the U’s, eight from the bench, including two appeareances in the League Cup and one in the FA Cup.

It was agreed that he could leave the club with five months remaining on his contract.

He was never the same after that awful facial injury he got in the pre-season friendly with Ipswich when the game was abandoned. Think this decision was right for both him and the club.

Was a star for first couple of months then never really took off. Agree the horrid injury seemed to make it worse. Was hard battler though fingers crossed works out for both parties.

He scored the winner against Gillingham on the first day of the season and always gave 100%
I agree that might not always be enough, but I say 'thank you' to Andy Bond and may you find a league club soon.

The fact that this was by mutual consent suggests he may have another club already lined up. Let's hope so. Sometimes a move to a new club can trigger an improved performance, e.g. Mooney at Leyton Orient. Good luck to Andy Bond.

I used to rate him very highly; but the change of tactics to a more passing style didn't suit him. Andy Bond is an ideal battling 100% effort player employed in the negative type of system favoured by John Ward. (I am sure they will be very happy together when the seemingly inevitable happens).

I wish him every success; and like Mooney; I do suspect that his career will be revived. Get rid of a couple more and we can perhaps buy what we need to push on with the progress now being made..

Jonjo oToole made the right move and scored again last night. Playing up front he seems to have knocked a few in for Rovers. Lets hope Andy gets a good move as no one can dispute he always gave 100%.
