Wet weather has beaten Braintree Town's pitch once again as a waterlogged playing surface at the Amlin Stadium has postponed a Skrill Premier game against Cambridge United for the second time in seven days.

The initial game between the Iron and the U's was called-off on New Year's Day due to a soggy pitch and rain over the last 24 hours has now accounted for the rescheduled fixture as well.

It had been due to be played tonight, but a referee inspected the Amlin Stadium pitch at noon and advised that it would not be fit for play.

A club statement said: "Despite the second postponement of this fixture, the club would like to thank the staff and volunteers who worked hard to clear the surface water, often during heavy rain!

"Both clubs have discussed the possibility of re-scheduling the fixture next Tuesday (January 14)."

This newly suggested date will be subject to confirmation from the league and will also depend on the outcome of Cambridge United's FA Trophy fixture on Saturday.

Braintree's next game will now be their Skrill Premier trip to Woking on Saturday.
