A GIRLS’ cricket academy has been launched in Clacton.

The venture has been set up by Essex County Cricket Club in partnership with the Clacton Coastal Academy.

The North Essex Girls’ Cricket Academy was officially launched at the school’s Town campus.

The school will act as a “hub site” and offer specific coaching and pathways into club cricket, as part of the Chance to Shine programme.

The partnership, supported by Chance to Shine, Sport England and The Cricket Foundation, will see Essex deliver a high-quality cross-curricular programme in partnership with the academy (CCA), which will offer pupils the opportunity to explore alternative formats of cricket.

England women’s captain Charlotte Edwards and Essex top-order batsman Jaik Mickleburgh were in attendance at the launch event, which saw the first 15 girls from the Coastal Academy inducted into the North Essex Girls’ Cricket Academy.
