Stanway give the leaders a fright and more Thurlow Nunn League news
STANWAY ROVERS boss Angelo Harrop admitted being proud of his battling players after they gave Thurlow Nunn League leaders Hadleigh United a scare before losing 3-2.
Hadleigh have a seven-point lead at the premier division summit but were made to work for their victory at The Hawthorns.
Adam Hampson scored both goals for the hosts but they were powerless to prevent another defeat – meaning they have still only won one of their opening 11 games.
Nevertheless, Harrop believes more success is around the corner if his players continue to show the same application and work-rate.
“We played so well and were very unlucky to lose,” said the former Colchester United youth-teamer.
Elsewhere in the premier division, BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT were involved in an exciting 2-2 draw at Godmanchester Rovers.
WIVENHOE TOWN are still hunting for their first victory of the season after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Diss.
FC CLACTON also suffered defeat on the road, losing 3-1 at CRC, while BRANTHAM ATHLETIC ran out 3-1 victors at home to Mildenhall Town.
In division one, new signing Chris Thomas scored both goals as HALSTEAD TOWN won 2-1 against March.
BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES drew 4-4 at Fakenham.
