U's keen to keep loan trio
Colchester United boss Joe Dunne is keen to extend the loan spells of three of his current starting line-up.
Jeffrey Monakana, Luke Garbutt and Matt Taylor have all impressed since signing for the U's on a temporary basis last month from Preston North End, Everton and Bradford City respectively.
Winger Monakana and left-back Garbutt are set to play the final games of their month-long loans at the U's against Wolves on Saturday.
U's boss Dunne said: "All of the loan lads that are here, I want to keep.
“If we lost those players at the moment, we’d really be in a difficult situation and we’d be playing our youth team every week.
“It’s key that what we have we keep, because they’ve come in and done well with the group.
“We’ve spoken to Preston about extending Jeffrey's loan spell.
"We’ll speak again next week, as we’ll do with some of the other loan players that we have here.
“We’re in a positive situation and it will increase competition for places.
“I’ve spoken to Simon (Grayson) and he’s been very honest and open about how he sees the situation.
“I have also spoken to Everton about the possibility of extending Luke’s loan.
“But I think the rules are that you have to wait until five days before the loan finishes to extend it.
“I’ve also made contact with Parky (about Matt Taylor)."
