BRIGHTLINGSEA Sailing Club’s annual Pyefleet Week regatta was another great success.

Nearly 130 boats competed in nine fleets and this year’s event saw the largest fleet of Brightlingsea One Design boats (BODs) racing at the same time, with 20 on the water on Sunday.

The racing between the BODs was very tight, with four boats still in with a chance of winning the competition at the start of the last race.

In a nail-biting finish in the creek, Jeremy Newman and his crew just held off Malcolm Goodwin’s team to take the title.

Ian Newman won convincingly in the 35-strong Laser fleet, finishing in either first or second place in all six races.

David Conlon and Fin Anderson (49er) dominated the rest of the fast handicap fleet by winning five out of six races.

Pete and Tom Kyne held off a strong challenge from Richard Mansfield and Ollie Clarke to take the honours in the Fireball fleet.

Paul Aldridge (OK) won on countback from Fergus O’Sullivan and Brandon Hill (Laser 2000) in the slow handicap fleet.

Will Sunnucks and Finbar Anderson (F18) recovered from an early hiccup to win the remaining five races in the Catamaran handicap and Melissa Heppell and Amelie Hiscocks completely dominated the Mirror Dinghy fleet, winning all six races.

Victoria Bond and Rebecca Bines (Mirror Dinghy) narrowly held off Alex Button (Laser Pico) to win the Cadet Handicap.

Geoff Gritton and his crew comfortably held off Dave Gibbons and crew in the Cruiser and Sports Boats Fleet and the one-off all-in handicap Big Wednesday race was won by Simon Hiscocks, in a foiling moth.
