U's looking at ex-Charlton defender

Colchester United are running the rule over former Charlton Athletic defender Yado Mambo.

The 21-year-old centre-back is training with the U’s, after being released by the Addicks at the end of last season.

Mambo, a tall, powerful defender, was on loan at League One side Shrewsbury Town last year and played in their 0-0 draw with the U’s at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, in April.

Mambo, who has also had loan spells at the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Ebbsfleet United, made three League Cup appearances for Charlton but did not feature in the league for them, during his time at the Valley.

If we sign him - do you think that he should be 'Mambo No. 5?' A useful acquisition and provides a bit of strength in depth and competition to our current trio of central defenders. Up the U's!!

If JD hadn't shown John White the door, there would be no need to sign the lad from Charlton. I hope it works out well with Mambo but it is a gamble.

Yes agreed Boris. John was always very adaptable and could play across the whole defence in any position, a true versatile player. However, what is Col U's loss is now Southend's gain. I was very sorry to see John go. Up the U's.
