Dunne - the gloves are off ahead of Shakers showdown

Colchester United boss Joe Dunne wants his side to come out fighting in their relegation six-pointer at Bury.

But the U’s manager has hinted he may have to make changes, as the club’s League One survival battle begins to take its toll.

Dunne will today begin preparing his players for their crucial basement battle with the Shakers, at Gigg Lane.

The Irishman has stressed Colchester must not dwell on their disappointment of relinquishing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Coventry City, on Tuesday night.

But an energy-sapping run of six games in the space of 18 days has pushed the U’s players to the limit and Dunne says he may need to freshen things up.

Dunne said: “We have to go to Bury now and have a real toe to toe with them.

“The gloves are off for Saturday - I think it will be a street fight and I want to win it."

I hope he is only speaking metaphorically about "the gloves off" and "a street fight". We don't need any more red cards, or fouls on the edge of our penalty area.
Most importantly, here's hoping for a neutral referee. Up the U's.
.
As for the energy-sapping run of games, the same applies to the other teams, especially Oldham.

And that's not going to help the goalie...can he keep his gloves on at least.

A good ref indeed is required.

I'm glad the gloves are off.
I can't stand seeing footballers wearing gloves, especially with short sleeved shirts.

If there's one thing worse than a red card, it's a red card after only 3 minutes of play. What the hell is going on?

Crikey, we're 2-1 up after 36 minutes, and Clinton Morrison got one of the goals. Must be great work by the lads. Hope they can nick another goal or two, and then hold on.

And they held on, a magnificent effort, well done lads. Up the U's.
