Addicks striker Smith signs on loan for the U's
11:21am Friday 8th March 2013 in Sport By Matt Plummer
COLCHESTER United have completed the loan signing of Charlton Athletic striker Michael Smith.
The front man has joined for an initial month-long period, up until April 6.
He has been part of the Addicks’ successful under-21s side this season, with the London side currently top of the U’s division.
Smith, who started his league career with Darlington, has also been out on loan at Accrington Stanley and also Newport County.
He made his first-team debut for Charlton earlier this season, playing in the Capital One Cup game against Leyton Orient.
Smith is the U's second loan signing in as many days, with striker Troy Hewitt having joined from QPR yesterday.

I am hoping that this is a chance for Clinton Morrison to become the hero because by all accounts he is the one rallying the troops in the back ground. CM, I always felt, was bought in to do what Kay last year couldn't, ie finish chances created as a poacher. At the start of this year we weren't creating a lot to finish whereas I think now with George Porter, Massey and Clifford we can create things for him to get involved with.
Bottom line is we should be able to cope without these two guys. We've defended well recently, if we can keep that going then I'm sure we have enough to get through. Tomorrow could be huge with some of the other fixtures.
Let's hope we can get a decent crowd because the last three performances deserve that at least. Also, if it doesnt go to plan, we have to keep positive. 2 weeks ago against Tranmere looked like game over. Since then the reaction has been faultless.
(PS- Let's keep hold Garmston too!!)

So tough having such week strength in depth to rely on short term loans so much. Could go either way but hopefully won't stop the current good run of form and the new lads do the business!!
