Potts can flourish during his time with the U's

NEW loanee Dan Potts can flourish during his time at Colchester United.

That’s the view of West Ham youth academy director Tony Carr, who has known the defender since he was a toddler.

The Upton Park stalwart has watched him progress through the club’s youth set-up and make six first-team appearances for the Hammers.

And he says there was a perfect example of the left-back’s determination and spirit when he fought back from leukaemia.

Potts, who has signed for a month, had to take two years out of the game when he was struck down by the illness six years ago.

“Dan’s a dedicated lad who’s battled through so much,” said Carr, who also coached Potts’ dad, legendary Hammer Steve.

“To be where he is today is nothing short of a miracle.

“Hopefully now he’s getting his rewards and his career will go from strength to strength, starting with the next month at Colchester.”
