Dunne disappointed with point after U's let lead slip

Colchester United manager Joe Dunne could not hide his frustration after seeing his side relinquish a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Shrewsbury Town this afternoon.

Goals from Craig Eastmond and substitute Sanchez Watt had put the U's in control, at Greenhous Meadow.

But two goals in the space of three minutes in the closing stages meant that Dunne's side had to settle for only a point, having been on couse for their fourth successive win.

Dunne said: "We're disappointed with drawing but it could have been worse.

"We're not good enough to sit back off teams, which is what I thought we did after our second goal.

"Let's be honest it could have been worse as I felt they should have had a penalty at the end and thry missed a couple of chances to make it 3-2.

"We brought it upon ourselves with two set plays which nobody was marking.

"It was all going to plan like it had previous games but we started to defend too deep which is the old habits and that draws on pressure.

"I thought they deserved to get their point, in the end."

Well said Joe ... Accountability is what we need. S*** happens but those responsible need to hear about it and be held accountable.

Agree, yes we were sloppy at the end. The defence at the moment is the teams main weak point, with a lack of competion. we had a good run with some good clean sheets. Lets put this down to learning curve, that even at 2 up with less than 15mins to go you can't lie back, ESP at set pieces.
At the begging of the day would have taken 2.2. Main thing now is to respond in the right manner, at Chelmsford but especially at notts county at home, who will be a tough competion

Joe's comments are absolutely right but, we need to sort out just why we got pushed back too deep. I think fatigue and may be a little complacency were the main causes. There is too much dependency on Eastmond and Ibehre in order to make the team tick and, both cut very tired and laboured figures in the last 15 mins.
