U's relinquish two-goal lead to draw at Shrewsbury

On target - Sanchez Watt scored the U's second goal in their 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury Town.
Colchester United squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Shrewsbury Town this afternoon.
The U's took a third-minute lead at Greenhous Meadow when Craig Eastmond fired in off the post, following a short free-kick.
And substitute Sanchez Watt made it 2-0 just after the hour with a superbly-taken strike, after embarking on a fine run and bursting into the area.
But Shrewsbury got back into the game with 11 minutes to go when Jon Taylor's corner was helped towards goal by substitute Asa Hall and went in off Karl Duguid.
And the home side got back on level terms less than three minutes later when Hall powerfully headed in another Taylor set piece.
Taylor had a chance to win it for Shrewsbury in the final minute when he blasted over from 12 yards, following Jeremy Helan's pass.
But despite both sides going all out for the win in the final stages, the spoils were shared.

Pity not all 3 points but cant expect to win all the time. Look on the bright side its a point J Ward would,nt have brought back to Essex.Still happy what Joe is doing for the club and look forward to the coming months.

Also yes they may have had a few chances to go on and win but so did we, and if their keeper hadn't pulled off a great save from the free kick at the end we would have taken 3pts.
Hopefully the players will realise to keep going for 90mimutes what ever the score and also me a lot more organised for set pieces.
Does anyone know our following? seemed pretty decent esp considering distance and being sandwiched between two other away games

Another 5 minutes and we would have lost.Unfortunetly we will lose a few more games like this on set pieces. With Mark Cousins flapping at every high cross, its was easy for the opposing manager to spot a weakness in our team. Their managerTurner brings on a giant midfielder sub who stands on the corner of the box, the corner comes across, Cousins stands rooted to his line and the midfielder just comes in to meet the ball and its a goal. Two minutes later the same thing happens. Dissapointing to lose a two goal lead but Shrewsbury's very noisy 5000 fans really did get behind their team which lifted them and at the end of the day,they got a fully deserved draw.
Will not try to pretend we ain't got a number of weaknesses, even in comparison to the BSS. Whereas a year ago we were very well organised defensively, we're now very vulnerable in that area, and Searle in goal is rather Dracula like.
In truth, I suspect our best hope is the U's not getting it right attitude wise, that they turn up at Melbourne thinking they're already in round two. While I'd have been quite confident if Ward was still in charge (and without those loanees), I'll now be happy if we can give the U's a decent game. And taking you back to the WCHS would be dreamland.
