MP backs disease strategy

NORTH Essex MP Bernard Jenkin has joined calls for a national strategy to be put in place by the Government to help victims of Lyme disease.

The Conservative signed a parliamentary early day motion that calls on ministers to draw up clear guidelines for treatment of the condition, which is caused by an infection spread through tick bites.

If sufferers are misdiagnosed or treated incorrectly, they can become housebound and in some cases bedbound.

Mr Jenkin said: "What's sad about this is that Lyme disease is completely treatable.

"The Government must step in to ensure that victims receive proper care."
