Last leg of rail link underway

THE last major contract for completing the north Kent leg of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) has been awarded.
Project managers Union Railways North has awarded the £120m contract to Hochtief Norwest Holst Joint Venture.
Covering 3.5km between the southern end of the Thames Tunnel and Pepper Hill, it includes a passage under the A2 and building the shell of the international station at Ebbsfleet.
Work is due to start in March and be completed by June 2005. Track is already being laid on parts of Section One south of Fawkham Junction.
