I am writing to draw your attention to the results of a recent national survey and the start of a new investigation being carried out by the London Assembly.
The survey clearly demonstrates that transport has become the most important issue in London, ahead of crime and vandalism. It showed that Londoners are more dependent on buses, the railways and the Tube than anywhere else in the country. Those who were questioned sent a very clear message that they wanted to see things improve.
But Mayor's recently published Transport Strategy however seems to focus on congestion charging in Central London and improvements to the Tube. There seems very little on offer to the residents and businesses and people who travel into or out of Outer London, other than longer traffic jams.
Too often it seems as if outer Londoner's problems are just overlooked. That's why the London Assembly is carrying out an investigation into public transport services in Outer London. The Assembly will be asking questions concerning travel needs, current services, barriers to using public transport, resident's priorities and specific transport improvements which could be made.
