Sir,-Well done WH Smith and many thanks to the staff at the Hounslow branch for hosting the Book Event for Children in Care on Friday June 28th.
Staff gave up their time to help carers and children browse, handle and buy new books in this new initiative to encourage children to discover the joy of reading.
Each child was provided with a gift voucher to ensure they left with at least two brand new books.
It was a wonderful evening with competitions, story telling, illustrators, raffles and refreshments.
While local author, Courttia Newland spoke to the young people about his experiences of growing up in west London and his series of books set in the area.
I would also like to say a huge thank you to all our foster carers.
These people go about their daily business of looking after our local children and are not always thanked or acknowledged by the public.
So, thank you, where would we be without you all?-Cllr Pamela Fisher (Conservative), Civic Centre, Hounslow.
