A country house will be hosting an annual music and marching ceremony.

Crix in Hatfield Peverel will be the scene of Beating Retreat on July 2, coinciding with Armed Forces Day.

Its history dates back to 1554, when a call was given during the night-time to cease hostilities until the following day.

The Crix event will raise money for soldiers charity, the Army Benevolent Fund and is organised by the charity’s mid Essex committee.

This year’s line-up includes The Caledonian Pipe Band, The Royal British Legion Youth Band, The Corps of Drums, and The Blue Falcons Gymnastics Display Team.

Visitors can also enjoy a licensed bar, hog roast and ice creams.

Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children, with all proceeds going to the Army Benevolent Fund.

Gates open at 2pm with displays from 3pm to 6pm.
