A mother has won an ice skating gold medal at a national competition - at the age of 51.

Karen Taylor, a solicitor at Braintree firm Kew Law, took up figure skating at 40 and after a recent medal winning performance she is now training for an international competition in Germany.

Mrs Taylor, of Blunts Hall Road, Witham, regularly trains at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Chelmsford and her family are all strong skaters.

She said she does pairs skating from time to time with her husband John, and her son Richard and two daughters, Gillian and Caroline, also enjoy the sport.

On February 27 Mrs Taylor enjoyed success in Sheffield. She took gold in her category at the British Adult Ice-skating Championships.
