Inspired by their “football mad” son, a devoted couple have organised a World Cup themed fundraiser in his memory.
This summer, Sandra and John Reeve, of Heathgate, Wickham Bishops, will bring dragon boat racing to the River Chelmer in Chelmsford.
Teams will paddle furiously in the Essex Dragon Boat World Cup to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the Tim Reeve Charitable Trust.
Sandra and John’s 23-year-old son, Tim, died from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in 2005, and the couple have worked tirelessly to prevent other families experiencing the same devastating loss and set up the trust in Tim’s memory.
So far they have raised more than £260,000, but their efforts to raise funds for research into better treatments for 15 to 24-year-olds suffering from blood cancers go on.
The race will be on Sunday June 13 and applications for the competition are being taken now.
Teams must be made up of 11 people, including ten rowers and a drummer. Entry is £400 per team, team members can also raise sponsorship for charity.
The crew of each boat will adopt a World Cup country and complete three races before the knock-out stages.
Call Mr Reeve on 07793 062576 or e-mail john.reeve@supanet.com for details.
