TOWN councillors have agreed to stage a special meeting to allow residents the opportunity to express their views on a controversial plan to bring a riverside development of homes, offices and leisure facilities to Maldon.
Members of Maldon Town Council’s planning committee, which has been consulted by Maldon District Council, decided that they would oppose the Sadds Wharf development at a meeting last week, but reasons for objection were not finalised.
At a meeting of Maldon Town Council on Monday, councillors agreed a provisional date of February 20 for a special meeting to do just that.
Baltic Consortium, the developer behind the proposals, had outline plans for a mixed-use development approved by Government inspector Terry Phillimore in early December 2009.
Maldon District Council will have the final say on whether the development goes ahead on the five-acre site at the end of Station Road.
