ORGANISERS of a huge event in Burnham’s calendar are urging people to donate to help make the event even bigger and better this year.

Burnham Quay Day, held during Burnham Week regatta, will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend at the quay in the town.

This year organisers need to raise £3,000 and are in the process of setting up an online Crowdfunding page.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of last year’s event, this year the day will also stretch to Millfields in Riverside Park, where crowds can enjoy a picnic in the park while they listen to great music from confirmed acts of Rich Clifford and Legacy, or take part in the fun activities and sports day.

The event is organised by a small band of volunteers and the entertainment is paid for from donations, sponsors and stallholders.

Organiser Fiona Clegg said: “If people have enjoyed the day before we would be delighted if they would donate £1 or £2 for the cause then we would reach our target in no time at all.

“We are setting up a Crowdfunding page to allow donations to be made easily. Details of this can be found on our Burnham Quay Day Facebook page.

“There is also an opportunity for corporate sponsorship.

“This event is an important day in the Burnham calendar.

“It brings tourists to the town during the Burnham Week regatta, supports local businesses and gives Dengie residents a fun day with a great atmosphere.”

The day will be held on August 27, with regular attractions such as a Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike will be arriving on the high seas, and the Princess Elsa from the Disney film Frozen with her bouncy castle, which will join the huge roster of entertainments flooding the quayside.
