THREE Essex Scouts are preparing for a trip of a lifetime thanks to a donation from Taylor Wimpey East London.

Charlie Warner, Charlie Power and Charlie Bennett-Froude of the Maldon and East Essex Scouts district have been chosen to represent their county and country at the 24th World Scout Jamboree.

The event which attracts more than 40,000 Scouts and Guides is in West Virginia, USA from July 22 to August 12 next year.

The international gathering aims to promote peace and mutual understanding and develop leadership and life skills.

The teenagers, who are members of the, now have to raise £3,800 each to cover the cost of the trip, including uniform, travel and training.

Their total has been boosted by a £500 donation from Taylor Wimpey East London.

The three Scouts said: “We feel very lucky.

“We're looking forward to making new friends, learning about new cultures, and creating memories that will last forever.”

The three friends hope to top up their total by organising a fun day at Prances Scout Campsite and Activity Centre in Wickham Bishops, and helping out with other scouting events.

The money will also help pay for a Scout from a poorer country to attend the Jamboree.

Michael O’Leary, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East London, said: “Scouting has helped young people across the world develop life skills and friendships for decades.

“It’s a hugely worthwhile experience, and the World Scout Jamboree is the highlight of the Scouting calendar, so when the Scouts approached us we were happy to help.”
