TWO people had to be freed from the wreckages of a vehicle after a crash in Heybridge.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene of a crash on Broad Street Green in Heybridge this morning at 9.23am.

Fire crews worked with paramedics to help release two casualties trapped in one of the vehicles.

The casualties were released from the wreckage at around 9.50am and left in the care of the ambulance service.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 9.18am to reports of a road traffic collision outside Broad Street Green.

"An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, the hazardous area response team and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended. 

"This is believed to be a single-vehicle involving a vehicle landing in ditch.

"Two patients - one believed to be in their 40s, and another in their 70s - were conscious and breathing but were trapped in the vehicle. 

"They were released from the vehicle and were given precautionary checks at the scene. No further treatment was required."
