THIS week we bring you the story of two dramatic rescues by our lifesaving volunteers and emergency services.
In the space of just a few hours firefighters, paramedics, the RNLI and Coastguard teams rushed to two incidents on the Dengie.
The stories of the rescues truly show the importance of these heroes - many of whom are volunteers.
In the first rescue firefighters worked against the clock to rescue a man stuck in the mud as the tide came.
Luckily they were able to extract him and he was looked over by paramedics but did not need to go to hospital.
Just a few hours later many of the same volunteers were called to Bradwell-on-Sea after a man had become trapped in a boat engine room.
Passers-by heard his shouts for help and raised the alarm.
In both cases the emergency teams involved have spoken of how important it was for all the services called to the scene to work together.
At the weekend their collaborative work helped save two lives.
The seriousness of the incidents has also promoted a reminder about keeping yourself safe on the coastline around the Maldon district.
Those who become stuck in the mud are reminded to stay calm and avoid moving.
People should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Passers-by are told not to try and save anyone stranded as they could become stuck too.
The work of these volunteer teams and the emergency services must not go unnoticed.
