MALDON’S Market Hill will be alive with the sound of music this Saturday with the spring concert of the Maldon Choral Society taking place.
The concert by the choral society will be titled Songs of America, featuring music with an American connection ranging from the traditional and classical to toe-tapping Broadway favourites.
Songs by Cole Porter and Rogers and Hammerstein, from shows including Oklahoma and The Sound of Music, will sit beside the intensely moving arrangement by Samuel Barber of his much-loved Adagio for Strings as a choral setting of the Agnus Dei.
Brentwood tenor Nick Rayner returns to the town to perform the solo in Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s wonderful Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast, which has recently awakened much interest after falling out of fashion for many years.
Nick will also perform works by George Gershwin together with favourites such as Some Enchanted Evening and Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat.
The choir will be conducted by Gillian Ward Russell and accompaniment will be provided by Ashley Thompson.
The concert is set to be held at the United Reformed Church at 7.30 pm on Saturday. Tickets are available at £12 each, or can be bought on the door for £14. Call 01621 856503.
