A DRAMA society is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a production of Dad’s Army this week.

The Latchingdon Arts and Drama Society (LADS) will be performing three plays from the hugely popular television show across four days this week.

This year we are celebrating 60 years of L.A.D.S. So we wanted to have a programme with a bit of a difference.

Dad’s Army has been mentioned a few times during preparations for this year’s season of plays at LADS, and they have finally decided to push ahead with it.

Dad’s Army is a comedy that was originally a long running TV series on the BBC set in the Second World War, and has been made into an evening of three act plays by LADS, and will include the most iconic “The Deadly Attachment” which includes the famous line “don’t tell them your name Pike!”.

The LADS crew have laughed since day one of rehearsals and have an excellent cast to bring life those characters the people know so well, from bombastic Captain Mannering with sidekick Wilson, Jones the Butcher obsessed with getting the “fuzzie Wuzzies” to childlike Pike and Frazier “We’re all doomed Cap’n”.

The Latchingdon Arts and Drama Society was formed in late 1957. It was the dream of local Latchingdon Councillor, John Glassborow, who later became a President of the Society.

Latchingdon Village Hall was built in 1955 and served as the venue for many LADS productions over the year. The very first play, “The Good Young Man”, produced by Peter Jones, was performed from January 23 to 25 1958, with the society going strong ever since.

In February 1998, LADS moved to its new and current home at the Tractor Shed, located on Peter Jones’ farm. It is still used as storage for old tractors, but also provides a spacious setting for productions.

Performances will be on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Tractor Shed. Visit www.ladsdrama.co.uk.
